A tiny one-of-a-kind neighborhood is where Marg and Andy landed years ago before starting a family that now includes three small children and a spunky dog named Dexy. They lived in a house they deeply considered saving, but its structural integrity and general quality of construction had not aged well enough to serve as the base of a larger home. Every possible aspect of the original house was reused or reclaimed by others before removal – everything from windows, to appliances, to wall sheathing.

The design of the new home maintains a very similar footprint as the original house but has an additional level that is essentially dug into the earth. This allows for the new house to be of a similar scale as the old one. Energy efficiency is a high priority for Marg and Andy, so an efficient layout, thoughtful location of programmatic elements based on orientation, environmentally friendly materials and construction systems and solar panels are all part of the plan.

JW Builders is building the house and is carefully and closely coordinating all the systems and subcontractors in order to help Marg and Andy make the best decisions for smart and energy efficient home. Construction competition will be end of 2023.
