Bruce and Tessa bought the last buildable lot in an established neighborhood with a small, serene lake. The site is a peninsula with an environmentally protective buffer around the edges. Bruce wanted to feel isolated from the rest of the world in the home, so 16-inch concrete walls (exposed on the exterior and interior) draw a line between the house and the rest of the world.

The house’s main public spaces are flanked by a sleeping wing and a semi-private wing which create a courtyard-like space with a patio that can transform into a screened porch, a pool and a beautiful landscape designed by Gregg Bleam Landscape Architecture out of Charlottesville, VA. The primary suite reaches furthest into the site, right at the edge of the buffer, taking advantage of the best views of the water and beyond.
